Spire rebuild at St Giles' Church, Camberwell The spire of this distinctive landmark in Camberwell (a grade II* listed historic building) was, in the mid-1990s, seriously defective. This was due to the original stone for the spire being very sub-standard (in common with many Victorian buildings); although the building was built in 1844, the stone to the spire had to be re-faced in the 1880s. This late-Victorian "repair" simply stored up problems for the future, and by the end of the last century the spire was in danger of collapse. We organised a project of repair and rebuilding of the top 22m of the spire, obtaining grants from English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund on behalf of our clients. Project cost: £750,000
